Weaving The Paradox: A Vernal Equinox Workshop
Join Mary Diaz of Feraling // Gather the Universe and Moon Mountain as we explore integrative equinox practices through the process of weaving.
In this beginner class, we will be learning the basic techniques of frame loom weaving as we hold a contemplative space for integration and renewal.
As we mark this time of equinox, we look to the natural cycles of--light and dark--old and new--death and rebirth. In this workshop, you will learn everything you need to know to create your own woven tapestries or woven accessories. As the process of weaving offers a tactile metaphor for unifying opposing forces, we will also be working with the intention of creating balance in our lives as we weave throughout the day.

Mary Diaz is a visual artist living in Sonoma County, California. The practice of making—working with her hands—has been a humbling cornerstone of Mary’s life. She’s worked nationally and internationally as a visual arts counselor and portfolio coach as well as the Assistant Director of Admissions at the California College of the Arts, a photojournalist in China, a freelance writer, photographer and designer.
Though weaving is the living metaphor of her life; working within systems of complexity, opposing forces intersecting into unified, expansive fields…welcoming paradox–are embodied expressions she explores in a myriad of forms. Her ongoing project, Gather The Universe–a producing member of the Northern California Fibershed — aims to be a platform for shifting cultural ethos toward slow, localized fashion, ecological/intersectional feminist advocacy, natural beauty, Rewilding and radical social activism.
Mother to 2 wild ones, her work and life aim to embody the vastness of femininity—itself a subversive act in a culture that teaches women the only way to be safe, successful or relevant is to betray this part of themselves.

WOVEN is a pathway to remembrance. A practice in using our hands and working with fiber to awaken our ancestral DNA. We see the damage that the global industrialized textile industry has had on our planet, socially, culturally and environmentally. We believe that shifting our relationship to textile is a critical step in shifting our relationship to the planet.
